ADDIS ABABA - August 31, 2024 (EPHI) - The Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science Research Division held a half-day meeting last Friday to review the progress of projects planned for the 2024/25 fiscal year. The meeting, which took place at the National Training Center, reviewed and discussed the progress of 10 selected projects.
During the meeting, principal investigators provided updates on their respective projects, discussing human resources involved, challenges encountered, and next steps to ensure alignment with the planned timeline. Taking part in the meeting were about 20 researchers and support staff from the division.
Dr. Endale Amare, head of the division and moderator of the meeting, stated that project updates are essential for ensuring activities progress as planned. They allow for information exchange, timely adjustments, and improved collaboration. Regular reviews also provide a chance to address challenges, contributing to the project's success.
Some of the topics presented focused on food-based dietary guideline implementation, nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices, the importance of egg consumption for children’s nutritional status and educational outcomes, addressing acute malnutrition, and assessing food adulteration.
As revealed during the discussion, most activities are on track, and some projects are well advanced. However, a few require additional effort from project members to meet their deadlines.
At the end of the meeting, participants raised issues related to multiplicity of activities, including work not reflected in the annual plans. They emphasized the need to establish mechanisms for better follow-up and regular information exchange to improve efficiency and ensure that projects are implemented as planned. (EPHI)
