Food, Nutrition Strategy Implementation Performances Under Scrutiny

 

ADAMA – May 13, 2025 (EPHI/NIPN) - The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research Steering Committee (MER-SC) is in a meeting here monitoring and evaluating the food and nutrition strategy implementation performances of multi-sectoral offices.

Organized by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), the quarterly meeting is hearing performance reports presented by sector offices of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI), Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA), Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), EPHI, and Ethiopian Food, Beverage, and Development Research Center (EFBDRC).

Opening the meeting, the coordinator of the National Information Platform for Nutrition (NIPN-Ethiopia) and lead researcher at EPHI, Dr. Aregash Samuel, highlighted that the meeting brought together multi-sectoral offices under various governmental ministries to evaluate performances of the last three months. She stated that the meeting would serve as an important knowledge sharing platform for researchers and health experts drawn from ministerial offices, including higher learning and public health institutes. “I am of the opinion that this forum creates a good opportunity for us all to learn from each other,” Dr. Aregash said.

Sources indicate that MER-SC is chaired by EPHI and co-chaired by EIAR. The general objective of MER-SC is to provide technical support for the implementation of the monitoring, evaluation, and research components of the National Food and Nutrition Strategy (NFNS). EPHI organizes the regular MER-SC quarterly meetings with the major objective of monitoring and evaluating Food and Nutrition Strategy Implementation. (EPHI/NIPN)
